We start with a world-class 6HP Subaru engine with overhead cam design...one of the very best small engines available. The engine drives our Pulse™ Power System — a battle-tested rack and pinion system that has been designed and built to last a lifetime. The massive cast-iron flywheels are spun at 400 rpm, storing a tremendous amount of energy. When you're ready to split a log, this power plant converts all that stored energy into a sudden burst that will split any piece of wood you put in its path. Here's how it works... The pinion gear is located at the center of the flywheel. And the rack sits just above the pinion. When you engage the cam lever to split a log, the rack is pushed down into the machined teeth of the pinion gear. This launches the rack at high velocity, firing the log into the cutting knife. The log just doesn't have a chance! Let's take a closer look at the pinion gear. This is nearly 5 pounds of hardened steel, and these grooves (which engage the rack) have gone through a second induction hardening process to add durability. And this particular gear is showing very little wear, even though it has already split several hundred cords of wood! Now that's durable! The Pulse™ Power System — which consists of the flywheel, the pinion gear and rack — is the heart and soul of the DR RapidFire, and we guarantee it for 2 years of unlimited use—even in commercial operation! If any part of it fails in that time, we'll replace it free of charge. The RapidFire Splitter's heavy-duty design makes for very low maintenance...there are no fluids to change, no pumps to fail, and no hoses to leak. And the mechanics put very little stress on the engine. The DR RapidFire is built for power, and it's built to last. And it's FAST! How fast? Well, don't split! Stick around to watch the next video!
